Overview
The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) has issued a new process for EV charging connections intended to streamline the process for connecting public charging facilities that commonly service multiple EVs – such as those found along highways and at service centres – as well as fleet charging stations designed for commercial use.
Applicability
This procedure is applicable to Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) connections including, but not limited to:
- Non-residential customer applications including Level 2 and Level 3 charging stations, such as publicly accessible direct current fast charging stations,
- Workplace charging,
- Charging stations used for commercial EV fleets and charging installations for multi-unit residential or commercial buildings, where the EV chargers are owned or operated by the building owner or a third-party charging provider.
Purpose of Connection
The primary purpose of the new or expanded connection must be specific to EVSE.
Initial Consultation
If you are considering an EV Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) project, please review the OEB’s Electric Vehicle Charging Connection Procedures document and download, complete and submit the EV Preliminary Consultation Information Request (EVPCIR) form, which helps determine high-level connection feasibility information for a proposed point of connection. Submit your completed EVPCIR form to eclerk@enovapower.com with the subject “EV Preliminary Consultation Information Request”.
Primary Consultation Report
When we receive your EVPCIR, we will send you an “Electric Vehicle Preliminary Consultation Report” (EVPCR), which conveys Enova’s preliminary understanding of the available capacity and complexities associated with the proposed point of connection. Please note: The EVPCR is a snapshot in time based on the information in the EVPCIR. It neither replaces the connection assessment process nor reserves capacity for an EVSE connection.
Moving forward with your project
When you are ready to move forward with your EV Charging Infrastructure (EVCI) project, you must submit a service request.
Submit a service request for projects in Kitchener or Wilmot.
Submit a service request for projects in Waterloo, Woolwich, or Wellesley.
See below for an overview of the process.
