WATERLOO REGION (April 22, 2026) – Enova Power Corp. (Enova Power) has provided each of the City of Kitchener, the City of Waterloo, the Township of Woolwich, the Township of Wilmot, and the Township of Wellesley with $50,000 reforestation grants, for a total of $250,000.
The grants help compensate for Enova Power’s tree trimming program while creating healthier, cooler neighbourhoods, supporting safe public spaces, and strengthening the places where residents live, walk, and gather.
Regular tree trimming is an essential part of Enova Power’s work to maintain a safe, reliable electricity distribution system by helping ensure that tree limbs and branches are kept well away from overhead power lines. These grants reflect the company’s commitment to caring for both the natural environment and the people who rely on safe, reliable electricity every day.
Expanding and protecting our urban forest
In the City of Kitchener, the grants help fund and protect the city’s urban forest canopy, which includes planting new trees and maintaining existing trees to help them reach maturity. “The environmental and socio-economic benefits of trees are well known. They can improve mental and physical health, provide shade and natural cooling, and beautify our parks and neighbourhoods. We thank Enova Power for these grants and for their help as we work to achieve our environmental goals,” says Josh Shea, Manager of Forestry and Natural Areas Management at the City of Kitchener.
Enabling tree planting in city parks
In the City of Waterloo, the grants enable tree planting in city parks, including the replacement of damaged or dead trees. “The Enova Power donation plays an important role in maintaining our urban forest canopy,” says Robin Milne, Director of Parks, Forestry and Cemeteries at the City of Waterloo.
Contributing to 24,000 trees in Woolwich
In the Township of Woolwich, the grant supported rural roadside tree planting in 2025 and helped enable the largest roadside reforestation effort in Ontario in the past 120 years. This initiative resulted in more than 24,000 trees being planted along 220 kilometres of roadside corridors throughout the township. In 2026, the Township continues to prioritize tree giveaways and to support a range of tree-planting initiatives across the community.
Funding free trees in Wilmot
The Township of Wilmot has used the grants to fund Wilmot Roots, a free tree giveaway program which offered approximately 360 free trees to residents this spring.
Helping Wellesley recover from the Emerald Ash Borer
In the Township of Wellesley, many trees were affected by Emerald Ash Borer beetles and had to be removed. Enova Power’s grant is helping replace those trees with native red maple and sugar maple trees and is supporting their tree giveaway program, “Planting Roots”, aiming to give away 1,200 trees in October.
“We’re proud to support programs that help our communities grow greener and healthier while maintaining grid reliability,” says Enova Power President & CEO Greig Cameron. “By working alongside our municipal partners, we are investing in environmental sustainability for the places our customers call home.”
