Prepare for cooler weather with a home electrical safety check

Winter’s on the way and we’ll be spending more time indoors as the temperature drops.

Make sure you’re prepared to stay cozy and safe this winter with our electrical tips:

  • Check your connections: Take a look around your home and replace any cords that are broken, frayed, or heat up while in use. Damaged cords can cause fires or electrical shocks.
  • Do not rely on extension cords: From space heaters to holiday lights, extension cords can be useful in a pinch, but they aren’t meant as a long-term solution. If you’re plugging in something for a longer period try finding a permanent solution, or call a licensed electrician to install an electrical outlet.
  • Watch where you place cords: Avoid running cords under carpets or behind furniture. Check high-traffic areas and ensure they are clear of hazards. Not only will you avoid tripping hazards, but you’ll also avoid creating potential shocks and electrical contacts.

These simple tips will help keep your family safe while hunkered down during the winter months. For more electrical safety tips, visit enovapower.com/safetyathome.
