The school year is less than two months old, but it’s off to a more nutritious start for thousands of students thanks to a $7,500 donation to Nutrition for Learning by Enova Power Corp. The donation provides 5,000 meals for students facing food insecurity.

Enova made the donation on behalf of the more than 2,000 customers who switched to eBilling during its annual summer eBilling campaign, which ended on September 19. Enova donated $3 to Nutrition for Learning on behalf of every customer who registered for eBilling.

This campaign with Enova proves that if we all pitch in just a little, we can create huge shifts for kids in our communities,” said Erin Moraghan, Nutrition for Learning’s Chief Executive Officer. “As Enova customers, your simple switch to eBilling added up to an unbelievable contribution. The impact of this generous donation will help us provide 5,000 meals this school year. For perspective, this represents five months of school meals at the average elementary school. We could not be more grateful for the way our communities – together with Enova – stepped up to ensure that students K-12 across Waterloo Region feel safe, nourished, and supported by their neighbours.”

Nutrition for Learning provides more than 2 million nutritious meals annually to more than 100,000 students at 180 schools in Waterloo Region. The organization is working to de-stigmatize young people accessing food support at school, through a variety of programs, including:

  • Breakfast Support Program,
  • Grab-and-Go Meal Program
  • Social Connections Food Program
  • Summer School Program

“We’re proud of our customers for making the switch to eBilling in support of Nutrition for Learning,” said Greig Cameron, President and CEO of Enova. “This initiative not only promotes sustainability but also contributes directly to the well-being of students in our community. This donation will help ensure students across Waterloo Region get the meals and nutrition they need to be at their very best throughout the school year.”

Nutrition for Learning is one of many community groups supported through Enova’s eBilling campaigns. In 2024, Enova donated $6,250 to oneROOF Youth Services and $5,000 to the Humane Society of Kitchener Waterloo & Stratford Perth. Other previous campaigns supported The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, and both the Grand River Hospital Foundation and St. Mary’s General Hospital Foundation.

The number of youths facing food insecurity across Waterloo Region continues to rise in 2025. For more information on Nutrition for Learning’s programs, or to make a donation, visit nutritionforlearning.ca.
