New distribution rates are in effect for Enova Power customers. We know that any change in your electricity bill matters, and we want to help you understand what’s changing and why.
The 2026 rates were approved by the Ontario Energy Board, effective January 1, 2026, and will appear on each customer’s first 2026 invoice.
The new rates apply to all residential, small businesses, and commercial customers.
How will this change impact customers?
Residential customers using an average of 750 kWh per month will see:
- $2.56 more per invoice in Kitchener and Wilmot
- $2.12 more per invoice in Waterloo, Woolwich, and Wellesley
- These new rates were approved by the Ontario Energy Board and will appear on your first 2026 invoice.
Why are rates increasing?
The rate increase is due to inflationary costs increases from Enova Power and other pass-through costs, which Enova Power are required to collect on behalf of other organizations.
Where does your payment go?
The increase consists of two components. Approximately 25% of the bill is made up of distribution charges, which are retained by Enova Power to operate and maintain the electricity system. The remaining portion reflects pass-through costs that Enova Power collects on behalf of other organizations.
Distribution charges are used to provide services such as:
- Emergency services: 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, through ice, snow, heavy rain, and high winds. If the power goes out, our team is ready to respond.
- Distribution system maintenance and resilience: Our engineers and crews work year-round to design, construct, and maintain Enova Power’s electricity infrastructure, including poles, overhead wires, underground cables, meters, transformers, and sub-stations.
- Customer Care: Our Customer Care team helps set up new accounts, make account changes, process payments, and answer questions while creating a positive customer experience at every opportunity.
The remaining charges are collected on behalf of other organizations, such as generators, transmitters, and government agencies.

Choose the pricing plan that best suits your needs.
Every customer has different needs, and residential and small business customers may save money by choosing from three pricing plans, depending on how and when they use electricity.
Customers can choose between:
- Time-of-Use Pricing: Time-of-Use Pricing divides the day into three pricing periods based on provincial demand. Customers can take control of their energy costs by shifting electricity use to lower-cost periods.
- Tiered Pricing: With Tiered Pricing, customers can use a certain amount of electricity at one (lower) price. Once they reach that limit, called a threshold, they will be charged a higher rate for the remaining electricity consumed during that billing period.
- Ultra-Low Overnight: Business and residential customers who use most of their electricity at night, including customers who charge electric vehicles, shift workers, and certain businesses, may benefit from switching to the Ultra-Low Overnight rate to take advantage of significantly reduced overnight pricing.
