Sustainability

Sustainability and environmental stewardship are important factors in all of our work. We believe in protecting and fostering the natural environment around us while working to introduce sustainable energy sources and renewable resources across our electricity grid.

beehives

Our service territory spans densely populated residential and commercial areas as well as forests, rivers, and rural landscapes. As part of our strategic goal to empower communities, we actively safeguard the natural environment, minimize our carbon footprint, and advance the adoption of renewable energy resources.

86 pounds

of honey harvested

Two bee hives at our Country Squire office produced 86 pounds of honey in 2025, which was enough honey to fill 300 jars.

5

electric vehicles in our fleet

We have five fully electric vehicles in our fleet of 211 vehicles, and we have six Level 2 and one Level 3 DC fast EV chargers available on site for public use.

A Leader in Local Sustainability

Enova is a leader in local sustainability and we have helped shape the area’s energy future as a member of Sustainable Waterloo’s Regional Impact Network. We are also helping drive the energy transition as part of WR Community Energy to meet the needs of our communities.

Solar copy

607 MWh

generated

The solar arrays at our two offices generated more than 607 MWh in 2025. That’s enough electricity to power almost 65 homes for a year.

Sustainability and stewardship guide our daily operations. Both our Victoria Street and LEED-certified Country Squire offices have photovoltaic solar arrays. In 2025, the arrays generated 607 megawatt hours. This output is enough to power nearly 65 homes for a year. We also run an extensive recycling program for office supplies, construction waste, depleted batteries, light bulbs, and coffee and tea bags.

We partner with Alveole, an urban beekeeping organization, to maintain a pair of bee hives at our Country Squire office. Approximately 48,000 bees populate the hives, benefiting local plants and insects. Our natural environment produces an ideal safe space for honeybees to thrive.

Enova's Employee-Led Green Team

60

employees participated in the Earth Week Challenge

Sixty employees participated in our Earth Week Challenge. Challenge activities included a free bike tune-up, a 20-minute neighbourhood Earth Day makeover, lawn mower blade sharpening, and a yard sale, which raised $385 for future Green Team events and helped divert a number of used objects from landfills.

Our six-member Green Team coordinates our employee-led sustainability initiatives. The committee aims to create and support sustainable programs and initiatives that build awareness, educate, and empower our employees to be more responsible stewards who help our communities thrive. They drive efficiency and awareness through year-round events, including the annual Earth Week Challenge.

This year’s Earth Week Challenge included:

The Green Team also offered free mulch collected during tree trimming work and educated staff about the environmental concerns around microplastics.

forestation

Reforestation

We donated $50,000 to each shareholder municipality to support reforestation. In 2025, these funds enabled the planting of more than 25,000 trees across our service territory.

$250,000

in reforestation grants

We provided $50,000 reforestation grants to the City of Kitchener, the City of Waterloo, and the Townships of Wilmot, Woolwich, and Wellesley to offset the impact of proactive tree trimming and vegetation management across our service territory.

Partnerships and community support

Collaboration is how we move forward. By joining forces with community groups and industry partners, we spark new ideas, tackle challenges together, and create positive impacts in the communities we’re honoured to serve.

Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration Project (FLISR)

FLISR allows SCADA-controllable devices to automatically activate when a fault is detected. This activation automatically reroutes power to restore as many customers as quickly as possible after an outage. Later this year, the system will also monitor the network for sudden loss of voltage and attempt to isolate the cause and reroute power to as many customers affected as possible.

For more information on FLISR and its impact on reducing outage minutes across Enova’s service territory, visit enovapower.com/innovation.
